Starting this week, commuters will have a chance to try out MARTA’s latest experiment.

MARTA is road-testing a double-decker bus which can hold up to 100 people. They’ll be testing the bus until the end of August.

Its first stop is on MARTA’s route 191 in Clayton County. There it will service stops at the Justice Center and the Hartsfield Jackson International Airport. After that it will travel a new route each week.

The decision to try out the double-decker option is rooted in MARTA’s desire to offer their customers options. In addition to this innovation on their current buses, electrical buses are also a possibility in MARTA’s future.

The double-decker bus does have a few limitations, though.

Because it’s about 14 feet high, the bus won’t be able to pass under certain bridges. That limits its reach from some routes in the metro area.
