Clogged drains blamed for Downtown Connector flood

The Sunday afternoon flood on the Downtown Connector was indeed a strange sight to behold, and now we know the reason.

All north-and southbound lanes of I-75/I-85 were closed near Exit 249B because of drains that clogged up during a flash storm, according to Lillian Govus, communications director for the city of Atlanta Watershed Management Department.

Earlier, a GDOT 511 operator had said that the flooding was due to a water main break.connectorflood2However, Govus said that was not correct. The connector was closed from about 1:30 p.m. to 2:10 p.m.
